Mark 2:18-22

Fasting was considered preparation for God’s coming. Jesus tells the Pharisees that God is present in him, so there is no need for his disciples to fast. The need for fasting will return when he is “taken away,” but for now it is as futile as sewing unshrunken cloth into an old cloak or pouring new wine into old wine skins.

John was the messenger; you were the message. I don’t know what else you could have said or done to help the Jewish leaders see that truth. I pray this day for those who, like the Pharisees, deny you.
