Mark 7: 14-23

Jesus, addressing the gathered crowd, continues to chastise the Jewish leaders for their hypocritical attitude. He says that what makes a person unclean has more to do with the internal than with the external. It is what a person does or how a person acts, not what a person eats, that shows he lives according to God’s commands. Jesus knows that his disciples still do not understand, so he reiterates his point a bit more graphically.

What is most important is what is in my heart. I know that. No matter what I do, if I do not have love in my heart, my actions are useless. Cleanse me of my vices, and fill me with love.
