Faith Formation: Confirmation Program

Middle School - 7th and 8th Graders

St. Augustine's Confirmation Program

A Two-Year Program for Middle School Students -7th and 8th Graders

What is Confirmation?

It is a Sacrament of Initiation through which a person becomes “more like Christ” and bound more intimately to the Church.” In Confirmation, the Holy Spirit is given to strengthen and assist the Christian to be an “active member of the Church and to build up the Body of Christ’, to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.

Our Vision:

To make them disciples of Jesus Christ

Our Goals:

  • To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community
  • To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person

Guidelines of our Confirmation Preparation (Middle School):

Confirmation Preparation is a two-year process. It encourages young people to develop a lifelong relationship with their parish; so that faith formation can be ongoing.

Please refer to the 1st Year Confirmation Calendar for Schedule of classes at

  • A one-year process for growth into readiness for the next phase, Discipleship 2.
  • Interview from the Director with the candidate and family.
  • Orientation of candidates and family to the process with written objective, timeline and other valuable information that is needed.
  • Catechesis.
  • Acts of Justice with Theological Reflection (5-10 Hours).
  • Retreat.
  • ACRE Assessment before beginning Discipleship 2.
  • Participation in Parish Youth Ministry.
  • Adult-On Going Formation for Parents.

Discipleship 2–(Phase 2)

  • A one-year process for candidates who are in 8TH grade or older
  • Initial Interview and assessment of the Confirmation candidate’s readiness.
  • Orientation with Families, Sponsors, candidates and teachers to the process with written objective, timeline and other valuable information that is needed.
  • Rite of Welcome.
  • Catechesis.
  • Acts of Justice (15-20 Hours) with Theological Reflection.
  • Continual discernment as the process continues for the year.
  • Participation in Parish Youth Ministry.

Our aim is to help candidates know that they are disciples of Jesus Christ who live that discipleship to the fullest possible potential. This is a lifelong religious adult-formation.

Our task can be best summed up by St. John Paul II’s address at World Youth Day 1995 in the Philippines: “What is needed today is a Church which knows how to respond to the expectations of young people. Jesus wants to enter into dialogue with them and, through his body which is the Church, to propose the possibility of a choice which will require a commitment of their lives. As Jesus with the disciples of Emmaus, so the Church must become today the traveling companion of young people...”

Youth: Sent to Proclaim True Liberation

Therefore, our Confirmation Program is projected to the Education of Young People, and Adults in the faith of the Church, through the teaching of Christian doctrine in an organic and systematic way to make them disciples of Jesus Christ.

God calls. We respond!

As Confirmation catechists, we seek to invite our youth into a life of discipleship with Jesus.
